PHOTOBOMB! Jacob & Mommy

I couldn't help myself!  These are in no particular order.  Enjoy!

The word of the day is CUTE!

This week, Jacob is more aware of everything around him.  He seems to be learning cause and effect.  Oh, my little baby isn't so much a baby anymore.  These 21 weeks have flown by.  Wow . . . to even type that out, 2-1-weeks.  It makes me so sad.  My baby is growing right before my eyes and I blinked and don't know what happened to all the time that has passed.  Please God, let me remember each moment, smell, sound, touch of my little Jacob baby.  I'm not ready yet.  Okay, pull yourself together Nat.  This is what life is about anyway right?  I really never, NEVER understood what this type of love was until Jacob.  Okay, sorry for that mushy, gushy insight into my soul.
21 weeks young.
Where was I . . . oh, cause and effect.  So, I sing to Jacob daily and after I stop, he will reach up and touch my face to make me start singing again.  It's super cute!  I mean who wouldn't want to hear me sing anyway.  I have been known to win a few karaoke matches in my time (even though some people . . . ahem . . . E & J, think I cheat.  How can you cheat in a karaoke game anyway?  Skill is skill.) so maybe Jake just really digs my voice.  He even joins in from time to time and we sing a duet.  He is finding his voice more and more each day.

Jake has also started to suck on his bottom lip, a lot.  It's kinda silly looking.  He looks so cute doing it.  I wonder if it's his own organic teether.  LOL
I love chewing on my bottom lip!
Where'd it go?

He decided that bath time = splash time now.  Our normal routine is that daddy bathes Jake while mommy takes a breather before our bedtime nursing / rocking / pacifying session.  It's so funny.

Jake: Splash!  Splash!  Splash!
Jesse: HaHaHa!  Look Nat at how much Jacob is splashing.
Jake: Splash!  Splash!  Splash!
Jesse:  Jake, calm down.  Ouch Jake!  Let go of my nipple!  Look Nat, he has my nipple!

I say better daddy's nipple than mommy's nipple.  They've already been through the ringer.  : /

So now when we put Jacob down on his back, he automatically wants to roll to his tummy.  After he rolls to his tummy, he gets so mad.  It's so cute.  He's so cute!  Now to teach him that he's able to roll the other way too!

And one more picture because it's too funny not to post.  Grandma P got him a winter coat already.  Oh my poor baby's arms.  He'll just have to have them out to the sides until he's strong enough to bring them down to their proper spot.  : ) This is one of those pictures to use to embarrass him when he brings a girl home (in like 20 years).

I can't put my arms down!!!

Little Coughs & Big Sneezes

This week, Jacob caught his first cold.  : (  What a bummer.  It had to happen some time though and I'll take it at 20 weeks.  We went to the doctor and sometimes I have no idea why they are there other than piece of mind.  She is an amazing pediatrician but I hate when the advice I get is that we have to just "wait it out" and "let it run it's course".  No lady, I want something productive to do that will help my sniffly baby.  But I guess that's just mommy's issue now huh?  It was so heart wrenching to hear Jakey coughing and sneezing throughout the night.  Daddy and I were up checking on him probably every 45 minutes or so throughout the night.
I'm a 20 weeker now!

I love to grab my left foot.
Jake is now grabbing his feet like all. the. time!  Well, technically he grabs his left foot all the time but still!  I try to guide his right arm to his right foot.  He takes the bait for a split second until he catches on.  I'm pretty sure he is already thinking in that cute little head of his, "yeah right mommy, I'm going to do what I'm going to do and in my own time not yours."  If that's really the case, oh man, I'm not going to be any match for him am I?  LOL

Tummy time with daddy.
Daddy and I have been focusing a lot on tummy time and trying to get Jacob to use his right arm the same amount as his left.  I noticed a few weeks back that the tone is different in his arms and asked a friend of mine who is an awesome physical therapist to check it out as well.  She gave us some great strategies (thanks A!) to help try and even the tone out.  I guess it's another test of patience for me . . . time will tell.  I've noticed that this whole "mommy needs to learn patience" thing is a reoccurring theme in my life now.  I thought God would just bless me with patience in one big poof when I prayed for it.  However, I am of course majorly wrong.  My puny, simple mind has nothing on God so why would I even convince myself that it would be so easy?  And I bet you, I'll do it again and again.  Oh, my.  Pray for me please!

The Week of Firsts!

Each week, I find myself thinking about when I was this many weeks pregnant.  At 19 weeks pregnant, I was desperately waiting to feel Jacob kick.  Now, he rolls, reaches and grabs.  He has also been doing this cute stretch.  He is arching his back sooo much and all the time.  It reminds me of someone doing a swan dive.  He does it now for his morning stretch, when he's in opposition of something and when he's excited.  I think it's his favorite.  He has also been reaching for his toes.  He isn't quite there yet but definitely is on his way.  Okay, back to the topic at hand . . . The week of Firsts!
I'm 19 weeks now!

So close yet so far.

Our Compromise
Sayonara co-sleeper and hello crib.  Jacob spent his first night in his crib!  He actually made the decision to transition himself because that boy hardly fit in the co-sleeper anymore.  When I put him in the co-sleeper for his naps, I would come back to him in it all squished to one side.  To be completely honest, I wasn't quite ready for the switch though so Jesse and I made a compromise.  He can sleep in the crib if and only if the crib is in our room.  LOL I was under the impression that moving the crib from Jacob's room to our room would be a piece of cake.  Boy was I wrong.  So after taking the door off of it's hinges and taking the entire crib apart, Jesse was able to bring it into our room and put it together.  Next came the rearranging of our bedroom furniture so that Jacob's crib was in the safest place.  After that, about an hour and a half later, all was good.  The first night he slept in the crib was rough.  He and I were both up multiple times during the night.  I felt like just having him sleep in bed with us but I don't want to open up that can of worms.  After that, so far, so good.  He looks so tiny in that big space.  I miss being able to reach over and touch him whenever I want without getting out of my warm spot in the bed. : (

At the 4 minute mark.
For some reason and always during meal time without fail, Jacob is always fussy and wants to be held.  We say that he just wants to be in the mix of it all and included in the conversation.  We received a highchair for Jacob at his baby shower in April and decided it was time to break it out.  Jesse opened the box which had a million and one pieces in it and what seemed like 500 steps in the instructions.  Everything was going great . . . we were working as a team putting that thing together.  I kept mentioning to Jesse that the high chair looked a little short and that I was worried that it would be too low for our table.  So, while Jesse is on step 498 (which is to tighten all the screws), I'm working on step 499.  I notice that for my step (putting seat cover on) the pictures did not match.  Hmmm.  I tell J to look at it and he notices that the model number on the front of the box is different than the model number on the instructions and the back of the box.  *face palm*  I call the store and they inform me that the model I wanted is no longer available.  We bring in the assembled high chair and just decide to get a space saver one so Jacob can be exactly at our level.  He kinda liked it for about 5 minutes.  We are slowly trying to build up the amount of time that he'll stay in it without grunting and stretching to try to make his escape.

Jacob celebrated his first Halloween!  We were supposed to go to uncle m and aunt d's Halloween party the Saturday before but Jake wasn't feeling too good.  We also missed the costume parade at mommy group.  Dang.  We definitely were not going to miss trick or treating though.  He got all dressed up in his bumblebee costume and went t-o-ting around the neighborhood I grew up in.  He only went to three houses because the mosquitoes were crazy.  Daddy said he felt funny taking him to the houses to get candy because Jake can't eat them yet.  Oh well, we enjoyed his two pieces of candy.  Thanks Jake!  After coming back to my moms house, we passed out candy to all the other kiddos.  I was talking to Jesse about how next year Jake will be able to walk up to the houses himself.  : )
